The Twelfth is looming - sorry Orangefest is approaching and a couple of the neighbours have their ridiculously large and abundant union jack flags up.
We got a flyer through the door about a bonfire on friday night for the residents only and donations welcome for Marie Curie. It said there'll be a fancy dress competition for the kids, face painting and a penalty shoot out, as well as a BBQ. We are as usual sceptical about it, is it a loyalist 11th night piss up disguised as a charity family fun night? But then we do live in Northern Ireland and in a prodomenantly unionist area, it's part of this places culture. Maybe we'll get to know some of the other people living around here, but then do I want to know the ones with the big oversized flags. I'm thinking give it a chance, but then again..........
The photo is actually from a bonfire off the Ormeau Road in Belfast last year - had to take a picture of it as it was the neatest, most organised one I had ever seen. The one down the road from us wont be that big(hopefully) and wont include the burning of Tricolours (again hopefully).
